Continuing your fitness on vacation is actually easier than you think. Most people tend to think they need all of the accessories and equipment for your daily workout, but in actuality, you can get a good workout with minimal stuff. It might take a little planning, and maybe a different routine or exercise, but you can still get your fitness on vacation.
If you can plan a little bit before the vacation it will make it easier to exercise. You will probably need to cut down the length of time you exercise, but that is OK. The point of the vacation is for some rest and relaxation. I have put together a few tips on ways to get your fitness on vacation.
Hotels/Motels
- Is there an exercise area and swimming pool?
- What additional recreational activities are available? - biking trails, inline skating, parks, walking/jogging paths, and can you rent the equipment to make use of this?
- What kind of exercise clothes and accessories for planned exercise activities will be needed? You really do not want to have to pack another suit case just for your workout gear. Travel minimal.
Time for Exercise
Try to schedule a little bit every day, even if it is only 10 - 15 minutes. If you need to, take the stairs or walk to some of the attractions. Better yet, just take a walking tour and you get the best of both worlds.
The Suitcase Workout
- Bring some rubber resistance bands or tubing for strength
- Bring a jump rope for cardiovascular exercise
- Pushups, squats/lunges, abdominal exercises can be done right beside your bed
- And don't forget to stretch daily
You may even want to schedule your vacations with other families or couples, which have the same likings. No sense in scheduling the fitness vacation when you are out with the family who looks for every buffet possible. Then you become the outcast for doing something like exercising. If it is part of the vacation, all parties are more apt to join in and actually enjoy it. Then you do not feel guilty for eating dessert.
The above are just some simple tips to help get some fitness on vacation. If you are near a beach, go for a walk in the sand. That is a workout all by itself. But, any of these tips can help make your vacation an enjoyable one, and one not to feel guilty on. All of this just by doing some fitness on vacation.
